Spring Seminar 2008

Hey guys!!!!

Here is a bit information about Spring Seminar 2008.

We are waiting member candidates and internship candidates (all you new people :) ) at 10.30 in TTÜ.

AIESEC members will have more information soon (tonight).

At 23.00 (Saturday) we will all move to the Tudengimaja which is located in Raekoja plats 16. There we will have a party and election results announced.

We will all sleep at our homes, so people from outside Tallinn, who have no place to stay, have to write Elina an e-mail and we will definitely find you a place or there is possibility to stay in Tudengimaja for the night :)

On Sunday internship and member candidates will have their sessions in Tudengimaja. We use public transportation for moving.

We have also changed the fee:

  • 100.- for member and internship candidates
  • 50.- AIESEC members 50 kr (because they will stay only for 1 day).

If you have already paid, then we will pay you back.

So see you there ;)

Q&A forum is now officially opened

AIESEC Tallinn LCP and EB VP candidates 08-09 Questions and Answers (Q&A) round in the special forum is now officially opened. You can ask questions March 1-6 and the candidates have time to answer until March 7.

Epilogue

I felt that previous two posts were sort of incomplete without bringing out what I learned most from these two special events - applying for EB VP and for LCP.

(1) There is never enough time for filling in the application. Especially when it gets just a bit thorough each year and requires more research for knowledge.

(2) There is never enough time for writing the MOST PERFECT speech. Everything just happens so quickly after sending in the application.

(3) There aren't right or wrong answers for the application, in the Questions&Answers round, during VP candidates' interviews. There are just answers which suit AIESEC Tallinn reality more or less.

And if I was to give few recommendations based on these, that would be it:

(1) Look at the application as soon as possible after it comes out. Then you what is waiting ahead and how to divide your time between your responsibilities so that you would have fair amount of time for answering questions.

(2) If you're not so sure what should the speech be like, ask around. There are plenty of members around who have given speeches when applying for EBs and they would be most delighted to chat with you and help you. If you don't know where to start - look up some general information about writing speeches in Google for example. All in all - talk about things you know, if you don't know - find out and make sure you know what you're talking about ;)

(3) Make sure you know how the process is like (what has to be filled in, when is something happening, etc), then it's a whole lot easier to focus on the content and quality!

Thinking of applying for EB* 08/09? 2/2

If you thought that the second part would be about applying for EB the second time, you are absolutely correct :)

monkeybusiness I'm not quite sure anymore when I first started to get ideas that I could apply. I guess somehow it came from seeing how well Siim managed our team. And most likely from the fact that people had high hopes for me. There were a lot of people who tried to convince me that I should apply to become the next LCP**, but I had all my life planned already and LCP year didn't really fit the plan.

I remember so well those conversations with SiimCEE LDS 2007 and something he  told me once - if I want to get the kind of leadership experience that would help me in the future managing for example my own family, then LCP year would definitely be IT. Ahh, yes, I haven't mentioned yet - my other option was to apply for MC VP, but that wasn't so facinating either, I suppose.

So this time I managed to help a little bit with the application and booklet and felt really good about it. I started to like the idea of applying - especially because I started to find out who were the people who thought of applying in other cities - Kribu and Mari. Ooh, that was nice how we already bonded before we were elected, in Synergy 2007 we saw the real synergy that we could create!

Guess what - I haElections 2007dn't learned from applying the year before! The application was a little bit shorter in length, but a lot longer in it's content. The questions were harder, more information had to be searched than ever before. And during all this time - I was quite alone with my doubts. I even considered not sending in the application, but thanks to Siki who motivated me so much during these last few hours, I made it!

This time it was also tougher to make the speech. As in previous elections I reminded myself the magic of writing speeches, this time I wanted to take it a step further. So I decided to make sort of "spontaneous speech" :) It took a lot of self searching, finding out what would people want to hear, reading new information from the web, looking for puzzle images at 2am before THE DAY!

The competition was P-Club 2007/2008hard, votes divided between us - it really was a close call that I would not be writing this here today from LCP point of view. But I made it and it has been one of the best things that happened with me in AIESEC! And today I couldn't be happier about my decisions so far :)

Hello there my dearest AIESEC Tallinn members!

Today I wanted to share very personal story of mine with you :) It is about applying for EB, twice.

 Jazz concertWhen I became a member of AIESEC Tallinn, I was quite sure that I just want to meet some cool people and spend few hours per week doing some AIESEC stuff. Okey, so things didn't go quite like that :D I didn't even go to the very first Annual Conference when I was a newie...

Still I started to get some funny ideas about applying for EB after my first really awesome conference - Synergy 2006Synergy 2006.

I had a lot of doubts: should I apply? What if someone else applies for the same position and I wont get elected? What if I don't know enough about the field I wanted to work with? What if...?

 

They were all crushed one way or the other and I applied. So the first really big thing that hit me hard was that there were sooooo many questions in the application. And quite honestly - for most of the questions, I had no idea what the right answer should be. So it took a lot of time to find answers and write them down so that others would understand my points as well.

Elections 2006 Writing the speech was another thing that hit me hard. It was in high school when I last had to write and give a speech like that. Somehow I did it, got through from the interview and was selected to the EB 2006/2007.

And what a wonderful year that was!

EB* 2008/2009 applications opened!

Helo!

I am very proud to present on behalf of your AIESEC Tallinn EB 2007/2008 team that the candidates' booklet and the application form for applying to the new EB team for the next term are now opened!

Short summary about the application process:

  • February 29: Full application package submitted to LCP**
  • March 1: Candidates for LCP and EB VP*** positions are going to be announced
  • March 2-6: Q&A**** for all the candidates in myaiesec.net forum
  • March 5: LC meeting with introducing EB candidates
  • March 8-9: Elections at the Spring Seminar 2008
  • March 9-18: Selection committee interviews with EB VP candidates
  • March 19: EB 2008/2009 selected and announced in LC meeting

EB 2008/2009 term runs officially from June 1, 2008 – May 31, 2009

It's official - Kristina Toms is the next president in AIESEC Estonia



It's official - AIESEC in Estonia has only few moments ago elected new president for 2008/2009 and the lucky one is (drums, please...) KRISTINA TOMS!

Thank you ever so much Marko and Lauri - nothing's gonna change our love for both of you :)

We also received the results of the confidence votes for the vice president candidates and two of our own amazing members, both from my own team - Cristo & Marina have received confidence from all of the members. Now just some interviews and we'll know our future leaders.

Aigerim (from AIESEC Almaty), Maarja and Marian also received confidence, so whether they will be in the new National team will also be sure soon :)

Thank you all for your contribution during the whole process. We really couldn't have done it without the great suppport from all of you ;)

The very first LCM this year

We had LC meeting last Wednesday. It was the very first one of this year and we had some interesting conversations there.

Firstly we discussed shortly about LC meetings in general - why are they importa080123LCM1nt? Why is it that usually there aren't so many people attending? How come there were hardly any people from Exchange side? What made those 4 team leaders come to the meeting out of 11 team leaders that we actually have? Some interesting thoughts came up and now the hard work starts to make conclusions from them and really make the meetings more interesting and worth the time.

We also received some information about Annual Conference - what's the status with the organizing? What kind of difficulties have come up and how are they dealing with them? How many people have already registered and so on. A lot of information there as well. Liise also shared with us what is happening from the agenda side.

Just before our guests arrived, there was briefly information about applying to AIESEC Tallinn EB as well. The elections will happen a bit earlier this year - March 7-8 and this year AIESEC Tallinn is organizing the event. We will keep you updated on that topic as some preparations have to be made still.

Last but not least - we had some alum080123LCM2ni there telling us their stories: Siim Juks and Jaan Aps. They shared with us funny stories from their time in AIESEC, where and what are they doing now and how being in AIESEC has helped them to get there. As we didn't have much time to chat, they said they'll answer all our questions at Annual Conference - so be there ;)

All in all, I felt quite happy to see all of you who came - I hope you got something out of it and you also had a chance to share your ideas what we could do better for next LC meetings.

5 actions that can change your life in next 5 months

In my previous post, I was talking about importance of making plans, thinking things through and trying to find out what's the best thing you can do for yourself, for your own good. Well, here you have 5 opportunities all brought out for you to think over and perhaps even to act upon ;)

  • Members Committee applications for AIESEC Estonia MC 08/09 have been opened. It's really one-of-a-kind opportunity to make things happen in the whole AIESEC in Estonia. (1)

The Unknown

It is absolutely good to be back in business, the feeling is awesome :) I have managed to relax a bit, be with my family and friends, thought about my next steps and so on. I have to admit, my year so far has been quite bumpy, but also refreshing. I have had time to realize that making plans is necessary at times, but absolutely pointless at other times. You know what they say "life is what happens while we're making plans" ;)

Anyhow, plans are still important. For example I cannot imagine making new year resolutions without a bit of planning. It's one thing to write down what I want from the coming year, a whole lot of other deal is to really make it happen. To see the dreams come true. No, I won't write down my own dreams here, sorry to disappoint you :) I'm only here to provoke your thoughts ;)

I remember the time lets say about 5 years ago - it was quite the same, quiet new year's eve with family, missing the loved ones, etc. Then I decided for the coming year - that's the one where I renew my relations with my good friends. Guess what?! Didn't quite happen, cause I just thought that thinking about it is enough. It wasn't. It never is! It's the action plan that will make it happen! That year I lost quite a bit. Some friends, lost touch with family, just minded my own business instead of focusing on what is important.

Then another picture - Christmas 2005, at Kivi talu (you know the place where the traditional AIESEC Tallinn Christmas party takes place), I hardly knew anyone, but I had a blast. The evening was wonderful, I felt almost like home :) I guess I knew it already there and then that I have given my finger to AIESEC, it's now up to AIESEC to take the full hand :) And it did! Step-by-step it got me into everything more and more.

January 2007, exactly one year ago - whew, I had to start thinking what's next! It was a tough call, I was sure that I won't apply for president, then I was sure that I was absolutely the only candidate and I must do it, then I started to feel that it's actually something that would really suit to be the next step in my own growth. Today I feel that I'm the luckiest person to be in this position and it took me about 9 months to realize that. The good thing is that for the first time I feel that my family has started to appreciate it. They are finally beginning to understand what it means to me, what it means for the organization, heck, what it means for them ;) To have your family support you in what you are doing - I really wish all of you to experience that - the feeling is awesome :)

What is the meaning of all this?! Well, we all give the meaning to our words and our actions ourselves. And most of the time it's just a matter of time when we are able to put it to reasonable words when we explain it to others. Once I'm able to talk in my parents' language and explain what is it exactly that I'm doing here, I'm on top of it, because then I can be sure that I really know what I'm doing and it's not something totally random.

imageSo feel free to explore your options, think things through, act on your emotions if needed and find the best (or the next best thing if that's going to get you the best thing) available action that really helps you get to the point where you can say - it's great to be back in business, my friends and family support me on my way and the feeling, the feeling is totally awesome!
